An abandoned prison once home to murderers, rapists and hardened criminals might not be the obvious choice for a festival.

But ShishaFEST 2018 have announced that this year's event will be held at the notorious Paramatta Gaol, in Sydney.

Revellers will be able to play at being inmates, surrounded by abandoned cells, razor wire fencing and high sandstone walls.

'Keeping the gaol theme, festival goers can get hair cuts, work out, purchase buy-up and get a temporary tattoo,' the ShishaFEST steering committee said.

'Food and shisha will be more than 10 meters from each other as per legislative requirements,' the committee said.

'There will also be meat, vego, vegan, dessert and coffee offerings to satisfy attendees.'

Aside from the expected shishas on offer, a live DJ, food trucks and sunset cinema will also bring the abandoned courtyards to life.
